Mineral Makeup Review

Alright ladies, I've got some more makeup playin around for you! This time it's from MixologyMakeup!
I purchased a little sample review kit, so I could tell you all about them right here on my blog.

My samples came it little mini pods, with pop open lids.
Here's what I got.

jet liner
trench eye shadow
corker eyeshadow
Chica Blush
Tan girl foundation

Alright, first, I ended up not being able to use the foundation :( Nothing wrong with it at all! It's just that even though I'm pretty tan, I've also got a rosy pinkish look to my skin, and the tan was too yellow for me.

The eyeshadow and liner however are awesome for me!

I am very much an earth tones girl...browns, silvers, blacks, etc.

I also received a surprise sample of fray eyeshadow, and I'm glad I did, because I ended up using that color too!

Also the Chica blush goes beautifully with my skin tone. Here are the shadows, liner, and blush!

The pictures are in order as follows:
Corker Shadow,
Trench Shadow,
Jet Liner,
Chica Blush

Here is me with my eyeshadow, liner, and blush!

(um, yes that's me. I'm much older than I look, so don't flip out!)

Here's how I got the look.
I First moistened my eyes by rubbing in some (safe) cream. Then I brushed a tad bit of my foundation on very lightly. I then took my eyeshadow brush and applied Trench eyeshadow over my lid and a little up past the brow bone. Next, I applied Fray eyeshadow over the lower part of my lid, blending it upwards.

I then applied my jet liner. I applied a thickish line close to my lashes, and blended it towards the outer corners of my eyes. I continued to blend around the edges of my eyes. It's very faint around the edges, so it will be just a bit darker than the rest of my lid. I then use an eyeliner brush to apply the liner a little thicker just above my lashes, and then I apply it under my bottom lashes.

That's really all there is too it!

Here's some more pictures.

I must mention my mascara as well! (Weren't you wondering how my eyelashes got so nice and long? :-D)
I purchased Lash Sleeve mascara on Etsy! Click here to see what I got! It can be purchased from Barebasicminerals .
I am impressed with it, it goes on beautifully, and only requires about 2 coats to get a nice long thick lash look (and I don't have the greatest lashes).
It doesn't smudge or clump either, which is really nice. Oh, and it comes off very easily with just warm water.

I hope you check out all the goodies, and I hope you enjoyed!

Makeup Time Gals!

This post is for the ladies! I thought I'd show what makeup I use, and how I use it!
I use mostly handmade makeup, with the exception of eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss. I also use alo vera gel, which isn't exactly handmade, but it's wholesome all the same. You'll see what I use that for soon.

I have always had very sensitive skin. For some time, I used my mom's makeup, (and yeah, she didn't mind sharing with me :-D) which is store bought, (though she does buy good brands), but that stuff really didn't help my skin! Instead, it made things worse. So I decided to try handmade minerals which can be found on Etsy. It made a huge difference! Within just a few days, I started noticing the difference. It was as if my skin was finally getting the minerals it so craved.

Pure handmade mineral makeup is extremely good for your skin, and will help prevent problems in your skin such as acne. I don't like to wear my makeup everyday, only when I go out, as it takes too long to put on, but I do quickly brush a bit of foundation powder on just for the sake of my skin every morning.

This is me after putting my makeup on. Sorry if this picture isn't the *greatest*. Self portraits are sometimes a bit difficult especially when taken in a hurry! My hair is kinda messy! Nevertheless, I think you can see the good effects of pure minerals. No photoshoping was done as far as removing blemishes and flaws.
At the end of this post, I'll tell you a bit about how handmade makeup has affected my skin.

Alright, lets get this show on the road! Here are all my makeup goodies, minus the eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss.
1.Face cream
2.Eye shadow
3.Aloe Vera gel
4.foundation
5.blush
6.Viel (or finishing powder)
And of course, brushes.

First I apply the face cream. I bought this face cream from Quiltnut on Etsy, and I love it! It is wild watermelon scented.

Now this may seem kinda backwards, but I put eyeshadow on next. This is because since it is powder, sometimes I do get a little bit on my face, and I'd rather deal with wiping it off before I put my foundation on. You can apply a little extra cream (providing it is safe for the eye area) or aloe vera gel here so the eyeshadow goes on smoothly. You can also quickly dip your brush in water before dipping it in the eyeshadow.
I am using Antique Gold eyeshadow from The All Natural Face on Etsy. If you don't see it in her shop, you can contact her and ask for it!

Next I use the Aloe Vera gel as a type of mister. You can get misters specifically for absorbing your foundation into your skin, but I like to use this. I just spread some quickly over my face, it's very thin and waterlike so it doesn't take long. Now that my face is moist, I am ready to put foundation on.

Here is the foundation I use. I purchased this from The All Natural Face, she has awesome makeup! I purchased 2 different colors from her and mixed them to get the perfect shade for my skin. My perfect shade is a mixture of Lightest Beige Pale, and Ivory Rose mixed together.

There is no right or wrong to putting it on as far as I'm concerned. I like to swirl the brush around my face, others use more of a wiping motion. Just do whatever works best for you to get the best coverage. I apply 2 or 3 layers.
Simply dip your brush in the powder, and tap the excess off before beginning.

This is the blush. I also obtained this from The All Natural Face.
Put it on with a smaller brush, wiping it up your cheek bones working towards your temples.
I believe I am using the color she calls "glow", which can be used as an all over glow, or a light blush.

Now for the veil, or as some call it, finishing powder. I highly recommend this step, as it helps to lock in all of your previous steps, the foundation, blush, etc.
Veil is usually a white or off white color, but it is invisible when you put it on.
I purchased this from Heavenly Naturals.

Basically, you are done, unless you want to add the mascara, eyeliner, and lip color, as I did for the picture. As I said before, I don't use those things in handmade at the moment, but you can find them on Etsy!

Also you can apply bronzer if you so please! I rarely do this because I don't need it, but it's up to you!

Handmade makeup has been a very good investment for the health of my skin. My acne has gone way down. Lets face it, no one has perfect skin! Constantly caring for your skin with the best products won't make your skin completely perfect, but it will help to keep it healthy. Staying healthy is important, and never a waste of time or money!
Just make sure you don't become too obsessive. Beauty is only skin deep after all!

Well that's it gals! Enjoy playing with your makeup!

Since we're on the topic of makeup...

I thought I'd check into makeup applicators and the likes.

So I found these neat looking brushes. A very nice set indeed! I found these at Heavenly Naturals. These applicators have wooden handles, and there is everything in this set you will need to apply your makeup.
Included in this set are

So be sure and add this to your makeup bag, it's nice and compact, with a little organizer pouch too!

My Recent Purchases

I've recently been on a makeup craze...probably because I have always "borrowed" my mothers makeup, and I decided I wanted my own! But the thing is, I have sensitive skin, so I would only use my mom's liquid foundation on special occasions, otherwise, I'd just wear some eye makeup. So that's when I got the idea to go hunting for something that's easy on your skin, and I thought why not look up handmade makeup? And so I did! And I found some cool stuff too!
I discovered that there are indeed people who make makeup that is healthy and clean, and looks good.
So I decided to give it a try. I'm quite happy with the samples I purchased, and I'm saving some money so hopefully I can go back again someday and get some more.

I purchased foundation samples from The All Natural Face, so far I have mixed some of the colors and have found the perfect shade for me, so I'm saving up for a full sized jar. I can't wait! The quality of her makeup is wonderful, and I know you will love looking through her shop, who wouldn't? I have had no trouble whatsoever with it causing my face to brake out, so of course, I am very thrilled about this! She also has eye shadow, veil, and other products, including brushes to put your makeup on.

I also purchased eye shadow samples from Back To The Earth, and am very please with the quality and appearance my samples give me. She has some very beautiful colors, and I'm sure you will enjoy looking through her shop as well. One of the things I've noticed about mineral eyeshadow is that it goes a very long way! You can also purchase blush, eyeliner, jewelry, supplies and other things from her shop.

As far as I'm concerned, these products are well worth the price! I actually think if more people knew how good this stuff is, these ladies would be swamped with orders! My personal opinion on handmade makeup is very high, and I encourage you to give it a try.

Happy etsy shopping!

That being said, I got to looking around on Etsy, and noticed this cute little crocheted makeup bag from piccoladonna2006. The color used is just beautiful. It's folded kinda like an envelope, and has little white hearts on it. Would be a perfect Valentines gift for the makeup lover! piccoladonna2006 is offering a discounted price on this since she is studying to design makeup bags, and this is her very first one! Well, it doesn't really look like a very first one to me, it's beautiful! So check out her shop, and take a peek at all the pretty things she has.
